Here’s how a financial counsellor can support you.

    1. Free, kind and confidential support.
    2. Information about your rights and options for debts.
    3. Develop a plan for your goals and debts.
    4. Advocate or equip you to negotiate with lenders/debt collectors.
    5. Discuss financial hardship programs, concessions and money-saving resources.
    6. Link you with non-financial services that could provide information and support.

There is no cost to see a financial counsellor.

To make the most of your appointment with a financial counsellor, it’s helpful to bring the following.

  • An approximate balance of your outstanding bills/bills.
  • How much you pay in regular expenses like housing costs, petrol, food, insurance etc.
  • Any income you earn.
  • Current bank statements if you have some.
  • Urgent bills or letters about legal action.
  • Copies of contracts for any loans you have.
You may need to see the financial counsellor on more than one occasion, depending on the support and assistance you need. There is no charge for any session.
