During the COVID-19 crisis, many Australians are facing a sudden big drop in their incomes. The future is uncertain and people are very anxious.
Many people have an urgent need for advice on how to adapt their finances to cope with the new reality. Most working households have less than six weeks savings in income.
Covidmoney have quickly created a COVIDmoney.info website and a weekly email to give advice and encouragement on household money management for this particular group. See further details below.

Budgeting: Completing an income and expenditure statement will help you see what money is coming in and what is going out. Here are some tips to get you started.
Budgeting Apps: Money managing apps are a great tool to help home budget planning after you have worked out your income and expenses. You can set how much you want to spend for each expense (e.g. $300 on food, $100 on petrol). When you spend money, it lets you know how much you have left to spend. Food Saving Tips:
- Look for seasonal recipes
- Avoid recipes that need a special ingredient
- Buy in bulk and freeze
- Menu plan
- Look for specials for products you will use frequently that have a long lifespan (e.g. toothpaste)
- Make big batches of whatever you cook and portion out the leftovers to fridge or freeze for later
- Shop based on what groceries are on sale (beware you don’t buy just because it is on special and then not use it)
- Designate one night of the week for using up leftovers and food in your fridge
